The Castro, San Francisco’s most famous dwelling place for the LGBT community, is in dire need of some reconstruction and beautification. As amazing as the Castro is, there are some insufficiencies and inconveniences when it comes to getting through and around the two-block area at the Castro’s center. Improvements in the streets and some beautification are needed to keep Castro a wonderful place for tourists and locals alike. The Castro sees a great amount of foot traffic, so the focus needs to be on pedestrian safety. Currently the sidewalk and street seem to get tangled at many intersections, including Castro and Market. In April Mayor Ed Lee released his planned solution to many of the more troubling intersections, titled €œThe Pedestrian Strategy.€ His plan promises to cause the pedestrian fatality rate to drop 25% in the next 3 years.
